Client Update: Ratification of the Singapore Convention on International Mediation – Key Israeli Measures for More Effective Dispute Resolution in International Trade

Divider

In a significant step toward modernizing its approach to international dispute resolution, Israel has ratified the Singapore Convention on Mediation. This development introduces a clear and enforceable legal framework for cross-border mediated settlement agreements, offering commercial parties a more efficient alternative to litigation or arbitration in resolving international disputes.

While Israel has traditionally seen high volumes of court-based dispute resolution, recent years have brought a growing shift toward mediation as a preferred method for settling conflicts. Until now, the lack of a formal structure for international commercial mediation created uncertainty, particularly in cross-border matters involving Israeli and foreign entities. The Convention now provides businesses with greater legal clarity and the ability to enforce mediated outcomes across signatory states with fewer procedural barriers.

This move aligns with Israel’s broader commitment to advancing alternative dispute resolution mechanisms and complements recent legislative developments, including the enactment of the International Commercial Arbitration Law.
